Common Questions

Q: What is the Spring Tournament Team?

A: This is a competitive field lacrosse program designed to spark further development of experienced lacrosse players with an emphasis on team concepts, positional training and advanced skill work. Spring Tournament Team players will play on their normal Barrington Lacrosse team and the spring tournament team. The tournament team will practice once per week. Games will consist only of tournaments. Tournament team practices and games will not conflict with traditional Barrington spring lacrosse team practices or games.

Q: Do players have to tryout for the Barrington tournament team?

A: Prospective players must successfully complete a lacrosse skills challenge in order to play on a tournament team. This skills requirement is designed to create an elevated baseline of core lacrosse skills to best allow for successful training on team concepts, positional training and advanced skill work.  Players will also be required to commit to the practice and tournament schedule in order to be placed on a tournament team.

Q: How is Barrington tournament team different?

A:  This is the competitive program for BYL that provides new lacrosse opportunities for BYL players in addition to the traditional spring season. Players on the tournament team must also play on a traditional spring lacrosse team. The tournament team is an additional/different team for advanced players.

Think of the traditional BYL Spring season as the recreation soccer or baseball league and the Tournament team as the travel team....but for lacrosse in Barrington.

Q: Will Players Play Both the tournament team and BYL Spring?

A:  Yes. The traditional Spring season will continue to serve as the primary youth lacrosse program of BYL with a focus on learning/loving the game of lacrosse, developing lacrosse skills and having fun while playing lacrosse with their classmates/friends. The BYL spring season players will continue to participate in twice weekly practices and games with teams primarily set by grades. The BYL spring season does not include out-of-state travel tournaments. The Barrington tournament team offers a greater emphasis on skill development and competition with one additional practice each week during the Spring season and a minimum of 2 spring tournaments.

Q: Who are the Barrington tournament team coaches?

A: Coaches are comprised of BYL Coaches, BHS Coaches and BHS Varsity Players. The curriculum is designed to be a training extension of the Barrington High School lacrosse program with specialized training for coaches.

Q: Is there an additional fee for the tournament team?

A: Yes. There is an additional registration sign up and fee for the tournament team.
